the critical debate in architecture must move beyond the blob vs. the box. the exploration of form as an end-in-itself is no longer delivering radical shifts. for the past ten years, architecture has focused on computationally intensive geometry. now, it must engage the territory presented by the network, both as a site for a new kind of architecture, and as a tool for rethinking the nature of design as a cultural construct.

It's very interesting stuff. The ability of the Mayan writing to express the same sounds and words with different glyphs, including composite and modified glyphs, permits a kind of visual poetry, as opposed to the aural focus of poetry in most present-day languages. What is killing me, however, is trying to remember the cartoon character that was a head that looked much like a Mayan glyph and spoke with a deep adult voice. A secondary character on Rocky and Bullwinkle? This will keep me awake for weeks.
